ABOUT ME
Lisa Grove has been the lead strategist and pollster for political candidates, nonprofit organizations, labor unions and responsible corporations for over 25 years. She has a reputation for providing rock-solid research and unique insight that provides a foundation for successful messaging, communications and outreach plans for her clients.
She has an unmatched ballot measure win-loss record, and has never lost a labor-backed measure in over 50 campaigns. She is exceptional because she digs in on the details while never losing sight of the big picture, and has an innate ability to understand what will motivate and move people. The result is highly accurate and actionable data, insights, and strategies for her clients. Nate Silver of Five Thirty Eight named Lisa as one of the three most accurate pollsters in the country and in 2019 she was chosen Pollster of the Year.
Lisa has had the privilege of working with a diverse array of clients from U.S. Senators, members of Congress and Governors to labor unions, national advocacy organizations and Hollywood celebrities. She has knocked off Republican members of Congress in tough-to-win seats, has raised taxes at the ballot box on numerous occasions and has helped elect dozens of progressive candidates.
She is also known as a “code-cracker,” helping to develop the values messaging that led to the big marriage equality wins, including messaging President Obama’s change of heart on the issue and helping with the aftermath of discriminatory laws and legislation. In 2018, Lisa’s winning message in Alaska helped to defeat Anchorage’s Prop 1 and protected public facility usage based on gender identity – which was repeated a few months later with a win in Massachusetts.
Progressive organizations have sought her help in moving hearts and minds on issues like gun violence prevention, defeating anti-union proposals, Islamophobia, reproductive freedom and voting rights, to name a few.
Electing women to higher office is another passion for Lisa. In 2018, she was an integral part of the team that helped Kyrsten Sinema become the first female senator from Arizona. This win was particularly special given that Grove has polled for Sinema since she served in the Arizona legislature. The win also earned her “Pollster of the Year” status in 2019. Lisa has served as lead strategist and Women's Monitor pollster for EMILY's List, developing key messaging for women candidates across the country.
Grove is an avid mountain biker, trail runner and rough water swimmer, getting outside every chance she gets. She calls the small, remote island of Lanai, Hawaii home and is active in her beloved, close-knit community. She also serves on the boards of the Hawaiian Islands Land Trust and the Institute for Climate and Peace.
Lisa began her career with a top-tier firm in Washington, DC and started Grove Insight when her Pacific Northwest roots called her home. She ran Grove Insight for more than a decade, racking up a tremendous win record and client list. In 2011, she joined forces with two pollsters she admired, John Anzalone and Jeff Liszt, to create Anzalone Liszt Grove Research (ALG). They had a great run together for seven years and, beginning in 2020, she is "of counsel" to ALG so she lead new change-making adventures at Grove Insight.
